Blue Sky offers breastfeeding and parenting consultations with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) who has over 12 years of experience helping breastfeeding mothers, both in person and via telephone, email and more recently, skype.
What is a Lactation Consultant?
A certified Lactation Consultant is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs must recertify every five years in order to keep the prescribed standards of the profession.

5. You will then be asked to complete a form with your details, time preference and your concerns. This will be followed by an email from Blue Sky where your time will be confirmed and a detailed history will be taken. This information helps the lactation consultant understand your situation and allows you to spend your skype time more effectively.

Who are the Lactation Consultants?
Currently the consultations are with Iona Macnab BA(Hons) LLB IBCLC RLC, an Australian Lactation Consultant and long-term Tokyo resident and mother of 3 children, all breastfed. She has been working with breastfeeding mothers and babies in Tokyo since 1997. A former lawyer, she trained as a volunteer counsellor with an international breastfeeding support network after the birth of her first child, and later decided to pursue a career as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). In addition to her work as a Lactation Consultant, she still volunteers her time running the breastfeeding support network meetings, and also volunteers as an international support team administrator for trained breastfeeding counsellors in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. She is a member of the International Lactation Consultants Associaton, the Japanese Association of Lactation Consultants, and is accredited in Australia as a Baby Friendly Hospital Assessor.
The team will be expanding over the coming months with other IBCLC Lactation Consultants based in Europe, the USA and Australia.
